Hurtigruten, a world leader in expedition voyages, is celebrating its 120th anniversary with four new seasonal travel packages from its subsidiary, Spitsbergen Travel. Each package includes land-based multi-day excursions for exploring the Svalbard archipelago, which constitutes the northernmost part of Norway.
Packages include guest’s choice of two, three, or four nights at the Spitsbergen Hotel or the Radisson Blue Polar Hotel, breakfast daily, three excursions, and all necessary equipment and special clothing. Excursion activities are hosted in English and include dog sledding, ice cave hiking, snowmobile tours, and wilderness evening camps. Common wildlife sightings are the arctic fox and Svalbard reindeer. The packages are as follows:
- Return of the Sun – Throughout March, travelers experience blue light by day and Northern lights by night, starting at $USD1,311 per person.
- Endless Arctic Summer Nights – For all of May, day lasts 24 hours, allowing travelers to experience the midnight sun. The package starts at $USD1,125.
- Crystal Clear and Colorful – In October, travelers see Northern and autumnal lights, and may attend the Blue Festival, starting at $USD782.
- Magical Darkness and Northern Lights – During December, Spitsbergen has no daytime, their only light from stars, the Northern Lights, and moonlight. The package starts at $USD974.
